This one is surely a great choice for a Šolta day trip from Split. If you are a passionate cyclist you will enjoy the island’s diverse terrain, ranging from flat coastal roads to hilly inland paths. There are a few challenging climbs as well as exhilarating descents to be discovered… Don’t miss the scenic viewpoints of Stomorska and Maslinica nor the views of the inland villages from the island’s tops. Vela Straža in Gornje Selo rises to an elevation of approximately 237 meters (774 feet) above the sea level, making it the highest peak of the island and a perfect vantage point to admire the island’s stunning landscapes. Reaching Vela Straža is relatively easy compared to more rugged peaks in other regions of Dalmatia.
Once you reach the top of Vela Straža, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views in all directions. On a clear day, you can see not only the entire island of Šolta but also the nearby islands of Brač, Hvar, and Vis shimmering on the horizon. The azure waters of the Adriatic stretch out before you, creating a stunning backdrop for photos and memories. It’s a perfect sunset spot. As you ascend Vela Straža, you’ll pass through lush Mediterranean vegetation, including pine forests and aromatic herbs. Keep an eye out for native wildlife such as birds of prey, lizards, and butterflies along the way.
Šolta is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and dotted with charming bays and beaches. Plan your route to include some scenic coastal roads on the southern cost where you can take in the stunning vistas and stop for a refreshing swim. Also, don’t miss the opportunity to pedal through Šolta’s picturesque inland villages, where you can experience the island’s history and enjoy a glimpse of the traditional way of life. Stop by local restaurants to refuel with authentic Croatian cuisine or find your beach bar and enjoy your coffee break.
